Theo and I started the day with a walk to get coffee and cocoa. The walk is about 3/4 mile each way, so it’s a nice way to start the morning!
We had a slow morning because Chris was still recovering from food poisoning (yuck!), but in the late morning we made it to Newberry National Volcanic Monument. (Hooray for our National Park pass again!!!)
The monument has several parts; the part we went to has vast lava fields formed 7,000 years ago. I’m not sure I’d call it pretty, but it certainly is striking! The boys loved walking the trail through the lava beds.
Then it was back to Sunriver to grab some lunch and rent bikes. We weren’t sure whether Sam would be willing to go in the bike trailer, but he LOVED it! He said “More bike!!” when we stopped to take a break at the Sunriver Nature Center.
Sunriver has something like 39 miles of bike/walking paths winding through it, so it’s a great place for Theo to practice biking. As it turned out, we all loved it so much we decided to keep the bikes for all our days here, so we can just bike at our leisure. EVERYONE bikes here–it’s really fun!
Later in the afternoon, we went to the SHARC–the outdoor water facility across the road from our condo. It has a toddler wading pool and sand area, an indoor pool with water basketball, an outdoor zero-entry pool that even the smallest kids can wade into without navigating steps, an outdoor deeper pool for swimming, two giant water slides and one small one, big spraying fountains, and my favorite: a lazy river that you can float around on an inner tube. This, too, was a big hit with all of us! The condo I rented comes with free SHARC access, so you can bet this will be a daily activity!
We grabbed sandwiches at the market to eat on our patio while the sun set. Bliss!
